The benefits of relocation, even if you start with a worse office

Relocation used to be a buzzword in the UK, but these days there is less interest. Yet relocating your office to a different place can often bring benefits.

Why is there little interest in the idea of relocating? Mainly because over the past 20 years of economic growth most of the cities that were attracting companies, such as Reading, Bristol and Peterborough, have become very congested with traffic, so they are less attractive. Also, with the emphasis now on combating climate change many firms are reluctant to spend money and fuel on something like relocation.

Office relocation is still worth thinking about. Nevertheless, there are plenty of good reasons to relocate now:

1.You can start with a new office at fairly low cost by getting older premises and having them refurbished 2.You are likely to get a better lifestyle for yourself and staff by moving to a different place 3.You can lay out the office to suit the way your company works 4.You can get better, more motivated staff.

There are some pitfalls to avoid, though. Perhaps the biggest is the cost of electrical repairs. You see, these old buildings were built in the days when electricity was in its infancy, or at best when there was hardly any electrical equipment in an office. Just a few typewriters. That means there are no conduits for carrying heavy-duty electric cables needed in a modern office.

Nor were phones used much – there might have been one somewhere, probably in the boss’s office. The solution here is to make sure you budget sufficiently for electrical work, and find a contractor that can provide such a service.

Follow these guidelines and you will get yourself a better office, and your eomployees will appreciate it.
