Are you backing up your important data?

Why don’t people realize how important it is to backup their data? Nowadays we have a huge collection of data on our computers that we would hate to lose, whether that is precious photos (most people have thousands of these on their computers) or boring old work, if you lose it due to a virus or a hard drive crash then it is gone for good.

In order to backup all your data you only need a basic external hard drive, you can get them really cheap now too (just make sure you look at how it is powered, some need to be plugged into a socket, go for the USB powered ones where you can). Then once you have a drive you need to setup a schedule to actually use it! I backup once a week on a Saturday, if you use Outlook then setup a reminder in there so you don’t forget (and if you want to backup your emails in Outlook then make sure you do it before you open the program or they get locked).

Often the drives have backup software on them now which will only backup files which have been changed since you last backed up, which is a huge timesaver, or you can do a basic backup like me and just copy across the most important files on your computer each time. In fact flash drives are getting so cheap and big now that you can backup to them instead, you can get a cute 16GB pink flash drive for less than 20 dollars now and then not only can you backup but it gives you access to those files wherever you go.
